For use on:

How to use a fire extinguisher – P.A.S.S.:

Pull pin
-
Aim at base of fire
-
Squeeze handle
-
Sweep side to side
Remember:
-
Use only if fire is small and safe to fight

Keep your exit clear
-
If not controlled, evacuate and call 000
IMPORTANT: Notify building manager if a fire extinguisher is used, so a replacement can be obtained.
Fire Hose Reels - one is located in both basement levels
Guideline for Using Fire Hose Reels – Basement Carparks
Fire hose reels are provided for emergency use in the event of a fire.
What it can be used for:
-
Suitable for Class A fires: paper, wood, plastics, textiles and other ordinary combustibles.

Not to be used on electrical fires or flammable liquids (e.g. fuel, oil).
How to use a fire hose:

Turn on the water at the stop valve (usually located next to the reel).

Pull out the hose – it will unwind as you walk toward the fire.

Open the nozzle to release water.
-
Aim at the base of the fire and sweep side to side.
Important notes:
-
Only use if the fire is small and it is safe to do so.
-
Keep a clear exit path behind you.
-
If the fire cannot be controlled, evacuate immediately and call 000.
IMPORTANT - Only use the fire hose for actual fires. Using it otherwise will automatically start the fire pump to maintain water pressure.
Tip - Buy a Fire Blanket
It’s a good idea to keep a fire blanket in an easy-to-reach spot (such as the pantry), so it’s ready if you ever need it. They are less than $10 and can be bought at Coles/Woolworths.
What it can be used for:
-
Cooking fires (e.g. frying pan or stovetop fires)
-
Clothing fires (someone’s clothes catching alight)
-
Not suitable for large fires or electrical equipment
How to use:
-
Pull down the tabs to release the blanket from its container.
-
Hold the blanket up in front of you to shield your body and hands.
-
Gently place or lay the blanket over the fire to smother it.
-
For clothing fires: wrap the blanket around the person to extinguish flames.
-

Turn off the heat source if safe to do so.
-
Leave the blanket in place until the fire is completely cool.
